Hi, I’m David
It’s become cliché, but truly—what you are doing is hard, and I am glad you are here.
In existential work, we often talk about “the descent”—those moments where the ground falls away and the old answers no longer suffice. My path to this work began with a descent of my own.
At twenty, I joined the military. After several years and multiple combat deployments, I returned to civilian life expecting a simple transition. Instead, I found myself untethered. Moving through periods of instability and recovery, I learned firsthand that healing isn’t about merely "fixing" a defect; it is a gradual, courageous process of making sense of a world that has been irrevocably changed.
I don’t sit across from you as a clinical observer, but as a fellow human who understands that life can be deeply unforgiving. I’ve learned how to find footing when the ground is moving, and I’m here to help you find the courage to face whatever comes next without losing yourself in the process.
The Foundation of the Work
I view therapy as fundamentally relational. We do not become ourselves in a vacuum; we are shaped by our connections, our histories, and our choices. My work is driven by the belief that even in the face of isolation, loss, or transition, we possess the freedom to author a life of meaning.
Outside of Therapy
I am a husband, father, and a dedicated servant to two senior cats. You might catch me in over my head on a DIY project or packing more gear than necessary for a casual hike, but regardless of the terrain—I am focused on showing up for whatever life asks of me next.
Training & Credentials
I hold a master’s degree in Marriage, Couple & Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, and a bachelor’s in Psychology from California State University, East Bay.
As part of my master’s program, I completed 12 months of clinical experience at Clackamas and Oregon Pediatrics and the Lewis and Clark Community Counseling Center.
I’ve worked extensively with teens navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and age-appropriate independence. I also have experience working with veterans and folx in recovery.
I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in Oregon (R8976) and am supervised by Justin Rock, LMFT (T2584).
